This painting came from a series of night photos I took in and around Bristol in which my aim was to capture the effects of street lighting on wet cobbles. I’d had no particular subject matter in mind until a young chap sped past me on a moped and off into the depths of an interesting old railway tunnel. He was so quick I didn't get the photo but the memory stayed with me.
Later, as this became the painting, I was reminded of being ten years old again and driving my Granny’s moped up and down the garden path - when I came to Bristol I found out that they call this type of moped a "Chicken Chasers".
