The people who moved into the prefab housing erected after the second world war made them their homes. Against all odds these resourceful people made the most of their homes, almost every one boasting a freshly painted steel tube gate and a large fully stocked garden. It’s a way of life that’s all but gone unfortunately as the residents move on or die their homes are finally being pulled down, and where one home stood with land to feed yourself with, now twenty flats stand with no growing space.
In 2004 You could sometimes see just two or three prefabs still standing amongst the footprints of their demolished neighbours, the valiant few are all that’s left of a proud and once thriving community. Now however, they have all gone.
